Funny Cooking and Canning Stories!

It's good to laugh - and that's part of the reason I created this part of my website. I knew that people from all over would have funny kitchen stores to tell; and how much better to share them with others!

I remember...

I remember reading in a cooking magazine one time about a newly-wed who was desperate to impress her husband. She had prepared a huge dinner with all the fixings....but when she served it the result wasn't quite what she'd expected.

Gravy was to go over the mashed potatoes, but as she was making it she just couldn't get it to thicken up. She added huge amounts of cornstarch to no avail - it just wasn't working! So, she decided to give up and just serve the gravy runny.

When the husband sat down to dinner shortly thereafter, he picked up the bowl of gravy and tilted it over his plate, intending to pour some onto his potatoes. Greatly to his surprise, the entire batch of gravy came sliding out of the bowl in one congealed lump! Apparently it had thickened while it cooled. The new wife was mortified....but years later her cooking has improved, and she has funny stores to tell.
