Russian Tea Mix:

It's A Real Treat!

alt text

Chances are you've never heard of Russian tea mix before. (No insult intended if you haven't, though!) The fact is, I'd never heard of it before, either. It's one of those 'specialty' drinks that isn't the most common beverage on the menu today...but that's what makes it so incredibly special.

This Russian tea (or rushing tea, as I and my siblings used to call it when we were little) is basically a sweet and spicy orange drink. It's served hot, which makes it a perfect beverage for a cold morning or a fall afternoon.

The thing I love about this tea mix is the fact that it's different. Herbal tea can get mundane and boring after a while; and this unique mix kind of "breaks it up". It also makes a perfect gift for those friends who aren't crazy about hot chocolate or cappucinos. Remember, there's lots of cute and creative ways to make this tea mix into a gift. You'll want to look at this page for more information. Wheither it's for your ladies' summer tea this month, or as a Christmas gift next year, this recipe usually doesn't disapoint people!

Russian Tea Mix

2 cups instant orange drink mix

1 cup instant unflavored tea

1 cup sugar

6 tablespoons sugar-sweetened lemonade mix

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

Combine all ingredients thoroughly and pour into a quart canning jar. If you're giving it away as a gift, attach a tag or canning label to explain what it is and how to serve. This recipe yields 4 1/2 cups of tea mix.

To make a cup: Stir 2 tablespoons of the mix into a mug of boiling water. Stir and sip!
