Strawberry Smoothie Recipe

On a hot summer day, there is nothing better than a tall cold glass of this strawberry smoothie recipe. It's so refreshing!

Smoothies kind of give use this chills during the winter months, so we usually stick to making this yummy strawberry smoothie recipe in the summer. :-) My brother is our official smoothie maker, so he normally gets out the blender and does it; but the recipe is so simple that anyone can make it. This time I decided to make it, and get some picture of it while I did! My 4 year old brother, Isaac, was more than willing to help!

Place all ingredients in blender and blend well. (I use the milkshake setting.) Add additional strawberries to thicken, or more milk to thin. Sprinkle chocolate chips on top, if desired.

The coconut oil adds great nutrition to the already healthy smoothie recipe; you can't even taste it, yet you're getting all the good stuff. One big plus with this healthy smoothie recipe is that you can put all sorts of nutritious ingredients in it without anyone ever knowing - my banana was fairly brown, and yet it tasted delicious! Still a hit with little guys!

This is one of those classic recipes that you can do all sorts of things with. It's so versatile. Here's some ideas for variations you can do on this strawberry smoothie recipe:

    • mixed berries
    • juice in place of milk
    • shredded coconut
    • craisins (we love these in smoothies!)
    • yogurt
    • applesauce
    • flax seeds / sesame seeds
    • ice cream
    • The possibilities are endless; I've only named a few ideas that our family likes! Experiment to see what your preferences are.

      A NOTE ON MILK

I used rice milk in this smoothie, because right now we're dealing with some dairy intolerance issues. I've used our fresh goat's milk before, as well as almond milk, and they all taste wonderful. Both rice and almond milk work wonderfully as milk substitues in this strawberry smoothie recipe.

Smoothies make terrific snacks - and even better breakfasts! Depending on how you make them, they can be packed with nutrition and still be delicious. I like to make smoothies for breakfast a lot in the summer because it's simply a healthy breakfast. A large glass will fill you up easily; no breads or starches, just pure fruit!

In my experience, smoothies don't keep very well in the refrigerator. They won't go bad, but it's difficult to retain that chilled, frothy consistency that you had the first time. So make sure you prepare just enough to eat. Of course, that's no problem around here; leftover smoothies are rare!

The thick, frothy consistency of a smoothie is achieved by using frozen fruit, so if you are using fresh fruit, try adding a handful of ice cubes to help. I would also recommend adding yogurt for this purpose.

Kids love sprinkles - at least my little brothers do!! Use the traditional hard sprinkles on top to make it extra-special. You can also find fun striped straws at party stores to use as well. Try placing a cherry, a marshmallow, or even a a dollop of ice cream on top for special occassions!
